Facebook has a tiny flaw that has caught me out so many times now that I’ve ended up writing about it. I asked around the office and most people I spoke to didn’t know about it either.
It’s a simple sub folder of your main messages inbox called “other” and it acts as a light spam folder just like you would have in your regular email account. The only problem here is that Facebook filters plenty of genuine messages into this folder and they are very hard to spot especially given the fact that they don’t trigger any notification.
Anybody sending you a message who is not your friend (people with business opportunities etc.) will automatically have their messages filtered to this folder. It’s not a huge deal for the vast majority of people who rely on email for their day-to-day communication, but it is a simple design flaw that Facebook should be looking to fix. Have a look in your own Facebook messages account if you haven’t already, and I predict you will be surprised to find a couple of interesting messages in that folder.
How To Find Them
Look on the left hand side of your Facebook account and just below the messages tab, there is a second folder called “other”. Click on the folder and it will open up to show messages from people who have been trying to get in contact with you.
